This is day two of my 1 week cosplay Facebook challenge!
It's time to post one of those brand new photos I asked you to have ready for this challenge! Now, if you aren’t already members of some, join 2-4 Facebook groups that are relevant to your costume or community.
For example, if I had an Elsa cosplay, I could join Disney Cosplay and Frozen Cosplayers. Since I’m from Colorado, I could join Colorado Cosplay or Colorado Cosplay Community. There are also some generic pages like Promote Your Cosplay Page, although these have less involved communities.
If you're worried about getting a lot of notifications from these groups, you can adjust your notification settings in the upper right corner of any group. (However, I encourage you to give the group a chance — if you find you like what's showing up on your newsfeed, it'll make you a more involved community member!)
Once you’ve identified the best groups for your cosplay, share your photo(s) directly from your page to the group. Write a nice, friendly caption (“I just finished my Elsa cosplay! Believe it or not, the cold did bother me… ;) But the photos are worth it!”) so you don’t look spammy. Consider adding a “call to action” at the end of your post and tagging your page as well, like this: “If you want to see more photos of this costume, I have a whole album on my page: [tag page]!”
If you get any comments on your posts, reply to them, even if it’s just “thank you!” If you have some spare time, go through some of the recent posts in these groups and leave comments, likes, and thoughtful compliments and questions. A community doesn't owe you anything, so if you want them to care about what you do, you should care about what they do!
